Li-Pen Wang, associate Professor at National Taiwan University and currently visiting HM&Co, presented some of his work on Wednesday 4 December at 15:00 at HM&Co-ENPC. This seminar is part of the activities of the ANR PRCI Ra2DW project.
Title:
From rainfall nowcasting to climate modelling: AI in hydrometeorological applications
Abstract:
In recent years, AI has led to significant breakthroughs across many research fields. However, its widespread application is still limited by its “black box” nature. In this seminar, Dr Li-Pen Wang will present his team’s latest research in developing data-driven approaches to address hydrometeorological challenges. The presentation will specifically highlight how AI can improve convective storm nowcasting and integrate climate dynamics into local rainfall modelling. In addition, Dr Wang will discuss how these approaches are linked to physical processes, making AI less of a black box. He will also explore the limitations of current methods and outline key challenges and opportunities for advancing AI-driven hydrometeorological applications in future research.
