Method Principle
The mean idea of EMD is to consider there exist different scales simultaneously (superposition ). This my be considered as faster oscillations superposed to slower ones at very local levels.
The below figure illustrates the idea of decomposition. The characteristic scale is taken, for EMD method, as the distance between two successive maxima positions.
