Precipitation
As we showed in this lesson, precipitation can fall in either liquid or solid phases, or transition between them. Liquid forms of precipitation include rain and drizzle. Rain or drizzle which freezes on contact within a subfreezing air mass gains the preceding adjective "freezing", becoming known as freezing rain or freezing drizzle. There are two distinct ways that precipitation can occur.
Question
Give the two types of precipitation
Convective precipitation
Stratiform precipitation
Question
List some characteristics of the precipitation according to the type of occurring.
The Convective precipitations are characterized by :
Low or moderate intensity (less than 10 mm/h)
A relative spatial homogeneity
Substantial duration (in some cases)
Stratiform precipitation are characterized by :
A (very) strong intensity
A spatial heterogeneity
A short duration
